Sports Development Assistant – Apprenticeship


SPORTS DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT – APPRENTICESHIP 30 hours – £158.40 per week rising to £224.70 per week (£7.49 per hour for 18+ years) after 12 months minimum 18 month contract Are you looking for a rewarding job that works in communities to increase the number of people being active? We’ve got an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to ‘earn while you learn’, completing the Level 3 Community Sports and Health Officer. This is a fast paced Company, providing sports, leisure and fitness opportunities in a number of leisure centres and community settings. The post is a unique partnership programme across Nottinghamshire, where the successful postholder will be part of the nationally recognised ‘Coach Core’ Scheme. This will enable greater opportunities and experiences for working within sports development. You’ll assist the team to manage the holiday camps and activities and partner site bookings as well as visiting local businesses to support our corporate wellbeing initiatives. This is all to increase new opportunities for people in Newark and Sherwood to be active. You must be educated to GSCE level, achieving grade C or above (or equivalent) in both English and Maths. Being able to communicate effectively is a must, as well as good organisational and numerical skills. As with all jobs in leisure, you need to be able to work as part of a team, work to tight deadlines and be flexible in working arrangements. You will work across the district as well as at our leisure centres in Newark, Ollerton, Blidworth and Southwell. This, level 3 qualification and advanced apprenticeship, is worth in excess of £9,000. You need to have some knowledge in sport and leisure, so a BTEC in Sport or relevant Level 2 qualification or equivalent would be beneficial. Following the completion of this apprenticeship, the postholder will have the skills and experience to progress to a sports development, community or health improvement position in the industry. To communicate to clubs and hirers of A4T and Partner sites and support the block booking process. MAIN ACTIVITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To assist team members, in the delivery of projects, initiatives and campaigns that will increase participation in physical activity, including corporate roadshows and health events, community events and new opportunities for target groups. 2. To promote the benefits of volunteering and leadership by assisting in the co-ordination and delivery of a district wide sports leadership training programme. 3. To support the co-ordination of school holiday schemes. 4. To assist with the ongoing management and promotion of the Sports Grant Aid Scheme. 5. To support projects in identified target areas and work with partners to increase opportunities for physical activity. 6. To support the programming team to promote facilities available and assist in the booking process for clubs and hirers. 7. To ensure the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Children’s Act 2004 is operated in respect of keeping yourself, colleagues and customers fully aware of health and safety implications in the building. 8. To ensure you are aware and abiding by the Safeguarding Policy of Newark & Sherwood District Council, adopted by Active4Today. 9. To attend regular training and updates to ensure awareness of current training methods. 10. Be aware of health and safety regulations such as Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH and Manual Handling. 11. Report any faults to the Operations manager and complete all relevant paperwork.
