Mapping tool
The mapping tool was initially developed to help Active Derbyshire and Active Notts in identify schools to approach to be part of the Opening School Facilities programme. The programme aimed to support those young people facing the greatest inequalities (and therefore less likely to be meeting the Chief Medical Officer guidelines) to access extra curricular physical activity provision. We wanted to take an insight led approach to the programme and whilst there were lots of useful data sets available they were all in different places. By putting them all in one place and on a visual map – data around schools, health, population and deprivation, it made it a lot easier to see where the investment should be directed to meet the aims of the programme.
The tool has since been developed further to support partners to also take an insight led approach, taking on board their feedback around useful data and the look and feel of the tool. The tool is accessible to anyone in Derbyshire and Notts who would like to use it to help inform their work.
