Sport England has published the latest Active Lives Adult Survey Report, covering the period between November 2024 and November 2025.
The survey shows that 64.6% of adults (30.9 million people) in England met the Chief Medical Officers’ (CMO) guidelines of doing 150 minutes, or more, of moderate intensity physical activity a week – an increase of 859,000 adults compared to the previous 12 months.
However, while overall activity levels continue to improve, the data highlights that significant inequalities persist, with some groups and communities still far less likely to be active than others.
For example in England just 53.8% of the least affluent adults are active, compared to 73.2% of the most affluent.
People living with a disability or long-term health conditions are also less likely to be active, with 49.1% meeting the CMO guidelines and classed as active.
Black adults are also less likely to be active (57.2%) and Asian adults (56.3%). Women are still less likely to be active than men, with 62.2% classed as active compared to 67.3% of men.
An analysis of the local data will be shared shortly.
