Girls from five secondary schools in Bolsover took part in a Girls Active Inspiration Day to kick-start the Girls Active programme in the district.
Girls from The Bolsover School, Heritage High School, Shirebrook Academy, Tibshelf Community School and Frederick Gent School took part in the event which supported them to become Girls Active Leaders.
The day saw the girls hear inspirational stories from athlete mentors Jade Windley and Amelia Coltman before taking part in a range of workshops and practical sessions including Drumba, and cheerleading with Barlborough Bears.
In their role as Girls Active Leaders, the girls will now go back to their schools and work to support, influence and encourage their peers to be active in ways that work for them.
Active Derbyshire, Bolsover District Active Schools Network and the Youth Sport Trust are working in collaboration to bring the Girls Active programme to Bolsover.
A number of community partners also attended the inspiration day to connect to this work and consider what else might be possible to engage more women and girls in physical activity.
