The Government has announced £79 million of funding to support nature recovery, increase tree cover, restore nature and help communities across England adapt to climate change.
A new £53 million Community Trees Fund will support organisations to plant up to 500,000 trees between April 2027 and March 2030. Projects may plant trees in streets, parks and rural areas outside larger woodland creation schemes. Further details about this fund will announced in due course.
Strategic and local authorities, environmental organisations, farm clusters and National Park Authorities may qualify for funding. The Government will publish application details later.
The Government will also provide £26 million for Local Nature Recovery Strategies. It will share the funding among 48 responsible authorities, with each receiving about £185,000 a year.
Authorities will work with communities, farmers, businesses and environmental groups on projects such as restoring wetlands, planting urban trees and improving riverside vegetation.
The investment will support nature recovery, climate adaptation and the Government’s goal to conserve and manage at least 30% of land for nature by 2030. Authorities will receive this funding directly rather than through an open application process.
