The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs are funding new national walks in nine regions of England, including the East Midlands, in their National River Walks Programme.
Successful applicants will be awarded up to £100,000 for project funding and up to £1,250,000 in capital funding. Projects must deliver new or upgraded linear access which should accommodate walking, wheeling, cycling, or/and horse riding where possible.
The objectives of the scheme are to:
- provide more inclusive access to nature in areas of higher deprivation
- increase engagement with nature through community participation and increase opportunities to enjoy and learn about nature
- work in partnership with the local community to drive increasing usage of river routes
- improve or restore nature and/or water quality through nature recovery projects.
The deadline for applications is 27th August at 12:00 noon.
