The Department for Education has pledged £1 billion to support PE and school sport, with targeted support to ensure all children and young people can access equal opportunities for physical activity.
The new Partnerships Network will replace the existing PE and Sport Premium and put an end to the one-size fits all model that has allowed children facing barriers and inequalities to fall through the cracks. It is expected that the £580 million-backed network will be fully operational by Spring 2027.
A further £200 million has been allocated to support improving school sport facilities, making these facilities more accessible for children with SEND or additional requirements. An additional £100 million will be distributed as a one off payment to primary schools during the transition period.
Further details on delivery arrangements and access to funding are expected as the programme’s implementation progresses.
