Club Development Officer

Derwent Valley Orienteers

Derwent Valley Orienteers are the orienteering club for Derbyshire. We have around 160 members and put on events all over the county, from city parks to Peak District moorlands. In 2019, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Many of our founder members are becoming less active, and it’s time to recruit and retain younger members, from a more diverse background. Orienteering is a running sport, and some of our members compete at national level. We have a number of qualified coaches in the club, who will support the successful applicant to engage with new and existing members. We would like the successful applicant to be the ‘face’ of a 6-week Club Night based in the Derby Parks this autumn, as well as following up with new orienteers attending our Derby events this spring. For further background, please see the separate document “CDO role description and background”. If you would like to come to an orienteering event to find out more, you would be very welcome at any of our Derby Parks events on Saturdays this spring: https://derwentvalleyorienteers.org.uk/future-dvo-events/ We need an enthusiastic, energetic sports development worker, preferably with a knowledge of orienteering, for 8 hours per week equivalent. The role involves: – Delivering Beginners and Improvers programmes. – Working with Committee members to design and recruit for these programmes. – Following-up with people who are new to the sport and have attended an event. Flexible working hours will include some weekend and evening work, attending events close to Derby and delivering the 2 programmes in 6-week blocks. Our experienced club coaches and volunteers are excited to offer their support in the planning and delivery of each programme. The CDO, if not an orienteer, should be a Level 2 qualified coach in another sport. The successful candidate will be supported to gain their orienteering coaching qualification if they do not already have it. An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.
