Leamington Place Partnership

The Leamington Estate in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, is home to a community that’s ready for positive change.

We’re working with residents to address their local priorities, including safer streets, family activities, access to health support, and routes into volunteering and employment.

Alongside local people and organisations, we support community-led change by building on existing strengths and enabling residents to shape and lead activity that matters to them.

Why Leamington?

According to Sport England’s Active Lives survey, one third of adults in Leamington are completely inactive.

Using this Active Lives data and other local information, Leamington was identified as an area where investment, support, and action would have the greatest impact.

What’s happened so far in Leamington?

In 2024, Leamington received Place Partnership Development funding from Sport England. Together with local partners and residents, we started building the foundations for a more joined-up approach to improving health and wellbeing.

Brought local organisations together in monthly meetings around conversations and consultations of what the Building Blocks of Health look like for residents. This gave us a fuller picture of local lives and the barriers that prevent them from being more active.

Resident action groups were created by our partner organisations.

Worked with community partners to build up their local presence and relevant skills.

Identified future community champions and built up their skills and self-belief.

Held leadership coaching for partner organisations to enhance their skills, capabilities and thinking, enabling further opportunities to work together as one system.

Conducted a system maturity matrix review to identify our strengths and opportunities for further development

Evolved the community partnership so it now meets every 6-weeks, with a wider attendance range

Actively sought out conversations with residents, rather than waiting for them to come to us by: conducting estate walkabouts to meet and talk to residents, including those who are housebound; and engaging the local schools and speaking to local families attending the school fairs, parents’ evenings, and a community roadshow on the school field
