AI use in our recruitment process

A guide to acceptable use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot when applying for jobs at Active Partners Trust.

Artificial Intelligence is changing how we work, communicate, and apply for jobs. This guide is to help you understand how Active Partners Trust view AI use by candidates.

Because we often see AI overexaggerating, if you choose to use it you must ensure the end result still reflects your true skills and experiences. AI must not be used to provide misleading or false information at any stage of the application journey.

We also encourage you to think about the negative effect AI has on our natural environment. Each AI query uses a small amount of electricity and water in data centres, but when multiplied across billions of daily uses globally, this adds up to a significant energy and resource footprint.

AI in your written application

The most important thing to remember is that we want to find out about you and how you align with the role and our values.

Your application should represent your skills and personal experiences accurately and authentically. Good applications help us understand:

  • Who you are as a person, and your own voice
  • How your skills and experiences align with the role you are applying to
  • What motivates you to do your best work
  • What you’re good at, including what you’ve achieved and how you did it

Acceptable use of AI

You can use AI in the application process to:

  • Refine and clarify your ideas and thoughts
  • Research information
  • Find out information about trends in physical activity in Derbyshire and Notts that you can relate to personal experiences
  • Check the spelling, grammar, and clarity of what you have written

Unacceptable use of AI

Do not use AI to:

  • Inflate your skills and experiences, or invent them
  • Create generic responses
  • Complete assessments such as written tests, situational judgement, and numerical tests

Using AI to prepare for your interview

If you are invited to an interview for a job at Active Partners Trust, AI can help you prepare and practice beforehand.

Acceptable use

You can use AI ahead of your interview to:

  • Create mock interview questions from the job description
  • Provide tips on body language and communication styles for interviews
  • Research public information about Active Notts/Active Derbyshire and our work

Unacceptable use

You should not use AI in the interview process to:

  • Inflate or invent your skills and experiences
  • Create scripts for you to follow during the interview
  • Create answers during a live or pre-recorded interview
  • Present a version of yourself that is not authentic

Why authenticity is important

All Active Partners Trust colleagues follow a set of values and behaviours, and we are looking for talented candidates who resonate with our core values. Authenticity and honesty in your application is vital to determine whether you are a good fit for the role.

As part of your written application, we will ask you to confirm the information you provide is true and accurate. Our recruitment team is able to spot AI-generated content, and if we think you’ve used it in an unacceptable way, including but not limited to those listed above, this may put you at a disadvantage.
