We’re proud to share that Active Partners Trust (APT) has recently achieved Disability Confident Employer status. A meaningful milestone in our ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive workplace.
Our overall vision is to develop a team and Board that places equity, diversity and inclusion at the forefront of our organisation and our work. A great way to help us achieve that objective is to build a diverse workforce that is reflective of the communities we work across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Why This Matters to Us
We strive to build a culture that celebrates diversity and welcomes everyone, recognising that sometimes an equitable approach is needed to ensure true inclusion. People from all walks of life are welcome to join our organisation, and you don’t need prior experience in sport and physical activity to work with us. What matters most is your commitment to our shared values and mission. See what it means to join us.
Our journey to Disability Confident Employer status has encouraged us to examine our practices more closely. We’ve made our recruitment process more accessible through the use of the Applied, a recruitment software that removes potential bias from shortlisting, and ensures we’re reaching candidates through diverse channels. We also consider reasonable adjustments needed to ensure someone has a positive experience whilst working for us and the ability to thrive at work.
An Invitation to Others
We’re sharing our story because we believe more organisations in Notts and Derbyshire could benefit from exploring what inclusive employment really means. The Disability Confident scheme provides a practical framework for employers who want to do better but might not know where to start.
Whether you’re a community group, sport club, or a large sport organisation, there are simple steps you can take. It might be as straightforward as reviewing your job descriptions, considering flexible working arrangements, or ensuring your interview process is inclusive to all candidates.
Join the Movement
If you’re curious about how your organisation could become more inclusive, we encourage you to explore the Disability Confident scheme. It’s free, voluntary, and designed to support employers at whatever stage of the journey they’re on.
We’re still learning, and we don’t claim to have all the answers. But we believe that when we create workplaces where everyone can contribute their best, we all benefit.
