New film showcases collaborative working to encourage young people to be active in green spaces

Active Notts, News, Support Others

Collaborative working between Gedling’s School Games Organiser, Gedling Borough Council and Walk Notts is the focus of a new film which shows how people are being encouraged to be active in local green spaces.

The film tells how a walking meeting around Carlton sparked ideas of how to engage young people and families in the creation of a ‘Big Green Book’ for Gedling, and how – as well as the creation of the book – this has led to a number of other ripple effects.

The film was shot at a launch event in Arnot Hill Park where schools who had been part of the creation of the Big Green Book were invited to take part in a number of activities such as disc golf, skateboarding, archery, ball games on the Multi-Use Games Area, a bug hunt around the lake, and bushcraft art.

The event was an opportunity to showcase the park and encourage children to return with their families, support their physical literacy and build a love of being active in the outdoors. It was also a chance for Gedling Borough Council to consult with young people about what they would like to see in a new local leisure centre.
