Local authorities in England can apply for a share of £60 million in capital funding to improve the energy efficiency of their public swimming pools. The fund is open to local authorities in England that have at least one publicly accessible swimming pool, that offers pay-as-you-swim sessions, that would benefit from improved energy efficiency as a result of this support.
The funding is made available through the second phase of the Sport England Swimming Pool Support Fund, which is designed to help swimming pools reduce their running costs and become more sustainable in the medium to long term.
Grants of between £20,000 and £1 million are available.
A range of energy efficiency measures can be funded such as:
- pool covers
- shower flow restrictors
- variable speed heating/cooling pumps
- LED lighting
- boiler replacement
- triple glazed pool hall windows,
The fund will prioritise support for facilities in areas of greatest need.
Authorities should register their interest in the first instance.
