Young leaders’ work to support others to move more is celebrated at Empower event

Active Notts, News, Support Others

Pupils from Bluecoat Wollaton Academy, Djanogly City Academy, Nottingham Girls Academy and Nottingham Free School have returned to the University of Nottingham’s David Ross Sport Village to celebrate how they have supported others in their school to move more in ways that work for them.

The girls attended an Empower event at the university in January, where they took part in a variety of activities, as well as workshops where they explored the motivations and barriers to being active and moving more.

Since then they have been delivering activity sessions to year 7s back in their schools.

The celebration day was a chance to share, reflect and celebrate the work they have been doing as well as raising aspirations.

Activities also included a tour of the facilities at David Ross Sports Village and a chance to try Ultimate Frisbee.

Feedback from the event showed that as a result of the programme most of the young people involved were considering going to university in the future.

Being involved had also boosted their confidence, and they had enjoyed the opportunity to work as part of a team, being a leader and working with new people.
