Grants for Unpopular Causes in Deprived Areas

Active Derbyshire, Active Notts, Funding, News

The Seven Friends Foundation has reopened for applications. It is offering small grants of between £300 and £3,000 to charities and charitable projects in deprived areas that are unpopular or do not receive widespread public attention.

This could be due to:

  • negative focus within the media
  • difficulty in accessing statutory, voluntary and institutional funding
  • political controversy
  • because the issue is not typically seen as a charitable cause.

Examples include:

  • Asylum seekers and refugees
  • Migrant communities
  • LGBT+
  • Sexual and reproductive health
  • homelessness and groups of increased risk of homelessness.

The programme will primarily support small organisations (annual income up to £300,000), with most grants being under £1,000.

The closing date for applications is the 1st August 2024.
