Last weekend I spent some time at the Derbyshire County Championships 2025 swimming competition. I was invited by Derbyshire Amateur Swimming Association as a VIP, which made me feel very special.
There were many clubs there from around Derbyshire and it was a great atmosphere. Due care and attention had been made to ensure all swimmers were safe and looked after. It was very busy but really well organised.
I met Geoff Robilliard, East Midlands President and Paul Hopkinson, Vice Chair for Derbyshire and also Derby Excel Para Swimmer Coordinator – both were really interested in discussing further work to support safer cultures within their swimming clubs across the East Midlands. It was also a pleasure to meet Ged Potter, Mayor of Derby who came to support the competition. Ged has since invited me to meet Crime Stoppers to see if links can be made to better support sports clubs across Derbyshire.
A really successful and positive morning – it’s great getting out and meeting clubs and being able to add value. The teams are already committed in wanting to make sport safer so is very rewarding to complement their work.
Thank you for all being very supportive and welcoming – I’m looking forward to working with you in the future.
