This week Active Derbyshire supported the Derbyshire Active Schools Network (DASN) Primary PE conference at Pride Park – it was really well attended and had some great content, including interactive sport workshops facilitated by the relevant sports. It was a great opportunity for primary schools across Derbyshire to gain additional knowledge about how they can support the children in their schools. The event was also an opportunity for attendees to understand how to make the sport curriculum more inclusive for those pupils that need may have disabilities or other barriers to accessing sport during the school day.
Mel Clarke, double Paralympian medallist in archery, was the key note speaker and she told her story with a lot of humour, inspiring everyone with how she broke down the barriers to access sport.
Kirsty, Opening Schools Facilities Programme Lead at Active Derbyshire attended this event to share information about the Active Lives Survey. She spoke about the Active Lives Children and Young People Survey to make schools aware of what the survey involves and the benefits of completing it.
It was great to have conversations with schools who have been chosen for this academic year, to make them aware of when it will be sent and what Active Derbyshire can offer to support the school community complete it. There was also some positive feedback from those who have completed in previous years, saying how insightful the report is in shaping their PE offer at school.
Sports Welfare Officer Franky, also attended sharing information and guidance on keeping sport safe within schools when using external sports providers to deliver activities to their pupils.
It was a great day and we would like to thank Derbyshire Active Schools Network for the work they do all year in supporting PE beyond the classroom and encouraging activity with all school age children across Derbyshire.
