Over the weekend Franky Boyland, our Sport Welfare Officer, went to Walsall to the British Judo National Training Centre to meet the British Judo Safeguarding Team and the Young Leaders Group for an away day.
Franky shared some of what happened at the event and how the voice of young people is helping to shape the future work of British Judo.
“I have to say what fab group of young people they have to represent the sport!
“I have been supporting a Junior Welfare Pilot at a local judo club to explore how this role might help keep judo clubs safer and more children and young person focused. Tesha, a young leader, shared the work that had been done and her findings…she’s amazing! It provoked a lot of thought and conversation and led to British Judo taking away some of this learning to share with their clubs and raise awareness around information sharing and communication with members.
“Along with other great ideas from young people, some of the points raised by Tesha have been added to a young person’s action plan and will be presented to the Board for agreement.
“It is great to hear and see that this work is valued by the sport and really does help drive change in judo.
“One young person said:
‘We are a serious group of young people that are making a difference’
“Another said:
‘The forum is good as it shows everyone can have their own voice’
WELL DONE JUDO! Really great work 😀”
