The course will be delivered by Amber Valley School Sport Partnership (AVSSP). Active Notts is working in partnership with AVSSP to make this course available to schools in Nottinghamshire.
This nationally recognised qualification forms part of the Professional Institute for Accredited Physical Education and is endorsed by the Association for Physical Education (AfPE) and the Leadership Skills Foundation (formerly Sports Leaders UK).
The course will be delivered across the academic year and will consist of a minimum of six full-day sessions. Each session will explore various key aspects of Primary Physical Education and Sport. Sessions are scheduled for Fridays, with one taking place each half term. Dates will be agreed upon collaboratively at the first session.
To maximise the relevance and application of the training, we aim to include practical elements in most sessions. Where possible, these will be hosted at schools participating in the course.

Course Content:
This qualification provides an excellent opportunity for PE leads, HLTAs, or staff with a responsibility for teaching PE to receive high-quality professional development aimed at enhancing the school’s PE curriculum. Key areas of focus include:
- Developing an understanding of Primary School Physical Education
- Exploring pedagogical principles in Primary PE
- Planning for continuity and progression
- Utilising assessment to support learning and progression
- Effective teaching strategies in Primary PE
The course fee is £1,070 per person. This qualification represents a sustainable and impactful use of your school’s PE and Sport Premium funding. It is designed to significantly enhance the quality, engagement, and overall impact of Physical Education and School Sport provision.
