The Sport England Small Grants Programme aims to support local community sport projects that encourage people to feel able to get involved in sport and physical activity.
Grants of £300 to £15,000 are on offer for a twelve-month period.
Applicants do not have to be a sports organisation to apply and a wide range of organisations are eligible including sports clubs, community groups, charities, CICs, schools and local authorities.
Sport England is particularly interested in the applicants’ knowledge of and track record in the community that will benefit from the project.
The fund will support projects delivering recognised sports and physical activity and can cover costs such as:
- Coaching.
- Volunteer training.
- Service alterations.
- Additional equipment.
Sport England is interested in projects which demonstrate how they connect with their communities, make best use of the existing skills and assets in an area, and will provide the biggest possible impact to those who need it most.
Demand for funding is high, therefore their priority is to support projects working with people in disadvantaged communities. Areas of disadvantage are defined by the Indices of Multiple Deprivation areas 1 to 3.
Applications should consider how the project adds value to services currently available in your local community, and work collaboratively with other groups to maximise the impact of the project.
In order to be eligible for funding over £10,000 applicants must meet Tier One of the Code for Sports Governance. Organisations applying for projects involving sports that Sport England deems higher risk will be required to have appropriate affiliation to the national governing body.
The deadline to apply is 30 June 2023.
