Active Practices

Being physically active can play a big part in helping to live life in good health but GPs and their teams haven’t always felt empowered to motivate their patients to move more. With a growing number of people facing health problems from their lifestyles, mental health issues, and being lonely, it’s time to make a change – and lots of GP teams are. Even small increases in how much we move can make a real difference to mental and physical health. Have a look at the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Learning website to find out more about why getting active matters.

The Active Practice Charter is an easy way to make some small but meaningful changes in your practice that will show both patients and staff that you mean it when you say that movement is the best medicine. Becoming an RCGP Active Practice is an amazing achievement and should be shared with everyone. It’s a great example of social prescribing ‘in action’, and an excellent case study for the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Healthy professionals make healthy patients.
