East Midlands Airport have opened their School Eco Garden funding which gives grants to schools to turn their eco garden dreams into a reality. Schools in the catchment area are invited to design their eco garden and can bid for up to £10,000.
Your project can consider:
• a garden that uses materials that are sustainably sourced
• create or improve a forest school or outdoor space which can provide a beneficial learning experience for young people and improve wellbeing
• greening a small or previously urban space including creating vertical gardens
• a garden that can adapt to a changing climate. Children could research areas of the world which already experience weather similar to what we expect in the UK, what plants grow there, and look at introducing plant types that are more resilient to higher temperatures, more intense rainfall, creating shade, and help prevent flooding.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust resources are available to will help with planning for the project:
• School Grounds Habitat Audit
• Wild at Home 12-month Toolkit
• Wilder Communities Toolkit
Deadline: 21 June 2023 (for the July 2023 Community Fund Committee Meeting).
Areas covered are within Derby, South Derbyshire and Erewash. Check their guidance for more information.
