Running from 1 June to 31 August 2026, the Mayor aims to encourage more people across the region to get active and take part in sport, exercise and active travel as a way of developing habits and hobbies that contribute to a healthy, active lifestyle. The initiative will place particular emphasis on the importance of sport for young people, and especially young girls, helping them to build confidence, resilience, teamwork and ambition. It will also highlight the value of playing sports more visible, accessible and inclusive for communities across the region.
